NEET Photo and Signature Size for the 2026 Application

Updated 9 October 2026 · Figures taken from 4 documents listed below

For NEET (UG) 2026 the passport size photograph is uploaded as a JPG/JPEG between 10 kb and 200 kb, and the signature as a JPG/JPEG between 10 kb and 100 kb. The bulletin gives no pixels or centimetres for either, only the KB range and the framing: your face, without a mask, covering 80% of the image with the ears visible, against a white background.

Many pages still print the 2025 rules: a signature of 4 to 30 kb, a postcard size photo upload and a name and date written on the photograph. None of the three is in the 2026 bulletin. The 4 × 6 inch postcard photo is now only a print you take to the exam, and the one dating rule left is that the picture was taken after 01 January 2026.

Make the file now

Add your photo to the compressor below, where 200 KB is already the maximum and 10 KB the minimum; for the signature, change the maximum to 100 before you compress. Open the full compress image page.

Files are processed on this page and are not uploaded.

The result will land between the minimum and the maximum.

What size should the NEET photo and signature be in KB?

Step 2(d) of the application procedure, on page 16 of the 2026 bulletin, lists every upload with its format and range. The photograph, the signature and the left and right hands fingers and thumb impressions are JPG/JPEG images; certificates go in as PDFs. Page 106 reproduces the Upload Documents screen, whose Min Size (KB) and Max Size (KB) columns read 10 and 200 for the photo and 10 and 100 for the signature.

One line disagrees with the rest. In the notes on page 17, the impressions file “must be between 50 kb to 300 kb”, whereas the list on page 16 and the upload screen give 10 kb to 200 kb. A scan between 50 and 200 kb meets both readings.

Why do other pages give a different NEET signature size?

They are quoting the 2025 bulletin, which had two signature ranges of its own: 10 kb to 50 kb in the upload list on page 4, and “File size must be between 4 kb to 30 kb” in the signature notes on page 51. For 2026 the ceiling went up to 100 kb and the 4 to 30 kb bullet was dropped, so a 60 kb signature scan the old wording ruled out now fits.

Neither year gives the signature a width and height, so strip sizes such as 3.5 × 1.5 cm or 2.5 × 3.5 inches quoted for NEET come from neither bulletin. The 2025 notes did say how to sign: a full signature in running handwriting, not in capital letters, in black ink on white paper. Crop the scan close to the ink so the name fills the picture.

What is the NEET passport size photo in cm and pixels?

The bulletin says “passport size” and stops there. In India the phrase means the print described in the Passport Seva application booklet, 4.5 cm long and 3.5 cm wide. Since NEET has you paste prints of the same picture on the admit card and the attendance sheet, upload the photo those prints were made from.

To get pixels, divide the centimetres by 2.54 and multiply by the DPI. The bulletin sets kilobytes rather than pixels, so a phone photo of several megabytes only needs compressing; the compressor below reduces the pixel count too if a lower quality alone cannot bring it under 200 kb.

Do you upload a postcard size photo for NEET 2026?

No. The 2025 form had a box for a postcard size photograph of 10 kb to 200 kb, which is why many guides still describe one. The 2026 list on page 16 and the upload screen on page 106 have no such row.

The postcard photo is still needed on paper. The bulletin asks you to keep 4 to 6 Post Card size (4”X6”) colour photographs with white background, and on exam day one is pasted on the proforma downloaded with the admit card. Appendix X still mentions postcard photographs “which were scanned and uploaded”, a sentence copied unchanged from the 2025 bulletin that the 2026 upload list does not support.

Does the NEET photo need your name and date on it?

Not for 2026. The 2025 bulletin asked for photographs “preferably indicating clearly the name of the candidate along with the date of taking the photograph”, and even then it was a preference. The 2026 notes drop that line and set a date limit instead: the photograph has to be taken after 01 January 2026.

A studio print captioned with your name and a 2025 date fails that rule whatever its KB size, so have a fresh photo taken. What the 2026 bulletin does ask of the picture:

  • Face without a mask covering 80% of the image, ears visible
  • White background
  • Colour or black & white for the upload; colour for the prints you keep
  • Spectacles only if you wear them regularly
  • No Polaroid or computer-generated photos

Frequently asked questions

What is the NEET photo size for the admit card?
The admit card takes a pasted print, not a new upload. Bring the printed admit card with a passport size photograph pasted on it, one more passport size photo for the attendance sheet, and one Post Card size (4”X6”) colour photo pasted on the proforma. The passport size prints must be the same picture you uploaded.
Can the NEET photo be black and white?
For the upload, yes: page 16 allows a photograph “either in colour or black & white”. The prints you keep are meant to be colour and should match the file, so a colour photo satisfies both.
What is the live photograph in the NEET form?
A second picture taken during the application with your webcam, or by scanning a QR code with a mobile or tablet when the computer has no camera. It has no file size. Sit against a light-coloured background in good light, ears visible and no mask; the bulletin says it is matched with your Aadhaar photograph.
Can I upload the NEET photo or signature as a PNG or PDF?
No. The photo, signature and impressions must be JPG/JPEG, and PDF is kept for certificates. The compressor below always returns a JPG, so a PNG, HEIC or WebP you add comes out in the accepted format.
My signature scan is under 10 kb. How do I make it bigger?
Keep 10 as the minimum in the compressor and change the maximum to 100. It raises the JPG quality first and, if that is not enough, enlarges the image while keeping its shape. A scan that still stays below 10 kb is too small to start with, so sign larger and scan again.
