Split PDF

Break a PDF into single pages, or pull out only the pages you name.

Files are processed on this page and are not uploaded.

Each page becomes its own PDF; you get them together as a ZIP.

A visa application wants the last three months of a bank statement, but the PDF from net banking covers a year. A rental agreement runs to twelve pages and only the signed last page needs to go back by email. Sending the whole document is clumsy, and some portals reject it for page count or size. Splitting lets you hand over exactly the pages that were asked for and nothing else.

There are two ways to split here. Every page separately turns a document into one PDF per page, packed into a ZIP. Pages lets you type a list such as 1-3, 7 and get a single PDF holding only those pages, in the order you typed them. Either way the pages are copied, not re-rendered, so a scan keeps its resolution and text stays selectable.

How to use it

  1. Add the PDF you want to divide. The page count appears once it has loaded.
  2. Choose Every page separately for a ZIP of single-page files, or Pages to pick a selection.
  3. For a selection, type page numbers counting from 1, with commas between entries and a hyphen for a range: 2-4, 9 for example.
  4. Press Split and download the ZIP or the extracted PDF.

Writing a page list

Numbers count from 1 as a viewer displays them, not from whatever is printed in the page footer; a report whose cover is unnumbered on paper still starts at 1 here. Ranges use a hyphen, so 5-8 means pages 5, 6, 7 and 8. Entries separated by commas are kept in the sequence written: 7, 2 gives page 7 first and page 2 second, which is a quick way to reorder a short document while extracting it.

Statements, agreements and signed pages

A bank statement exported from net banking often has the account summary on page 1 and the transactions after it, so a portal that wants three months usually needs page 1 plus the range covering those months; scroll through once, note the numbers, and type them. For a contract signed on the last page, use Pages with just that number and the result is a one-page PDF ready to attach. A page pulled from a 2MB, ten-page scan comes out near 200KB; if that is still too heavy for the upload box, the compress-pdf tool is the next stop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split a PDF into chunks of five pages each?
Not in one step. Run the Pages mode several times with 1-5, then 6-10 and so on, downloading each result. For a document of a dozen or so pages that takes under a minute.
What does the ZIP contain and how do I open it?
One PDF per page, named with its page number so the files sort in order. Android’s Files app opens a ZIP and offers Extract; on an iPhone, tapping the ZIP inside Files unpacks it into a folder next to it.
Will the extracted pages still be searchable?
Yes, if the original was. Text layers, fonts and links are copied with the page, so a word-processed document stays selectable and a scan that had OCR applied keeps its hidden text. OCR is not added to a scan that never had it.
Is splitting the same as deleting pages?
They overlap. Extracting pages 1-3 from a ten-page file and deleting pages 4-10 give the same three-page result. Use this page when the pages you want are few and quick to list; use delete-pdf-pages when you are removing a handful and keeping the rest.
