Delete Pages from PDF

Type the pages to drop and download the PDF without them.

Files are processed on this page and are not uploaded.

Pages are counted from 1. At least one page has to remain.

Duplex scanners add a blank page after every single-sided sheet, so a scanned bundle of certificates can end up with as many empty pages as real ones. A downloaded statement opens with a cover sheet and closes with a page of terms the portal has no use for. Those pages pad the file, push it over an upload cap, and make the examiner scroll. Removing them takes a page list and one press.

Type the numbers of the pages to drop, such as 2, 5-7, and the remaining pages are copied into a new PDF in their original order. Nothing is re-rendered, so scans keep their resolution and text stays selectable. The result card reports how many pages are left, a quick check that the right ones went. At least one page has to remain.

How to use it

  1. Add the PDF. Note the page count shown once it has loaded.
  2. Scroll through the document in a viewer and write down the pages to remove, counting from 1.
  3. Enter them in the list, separating single pages with commas and marking a run with a hyphen.
  4. Press Delete, check the new page count on the result card, and download.

Blank pages from a scanner

When a scanner is set to scan both sides of a one-sided original, every back side becomes a blank page, so a six-sheet bundle turns into a twelve-page PDF with the empties at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. Listing them as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 removes all six at once. A near-white page is not weightless either: at 300 DPI a scanner may store it as a full-page image, so dropping the blanks can take a surprising amount off the file size before any compression is tried.

Cover pages and trailing sheets

A bank statement from net banking, a salary slip bundle or a downloaded policy document often carries a cover, a disclaimer or an advertisement page that the portal field was never meant to hold. Remove the cover with 1, the trailing sheet with its own number, and the pages in between arrive intact and in sequence. Keep the new page count in mind when a portal states a maximum number of pages as well as a maximum size; the result card shows it, so there is no need to open the file and count.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete every page?
No. At least one page must remain, so a list that covers the whole document is turned down. If you want nothing from the file, there is nothing to download; if you want a different set, adjust the list and try again.
How do I find out which pages are blank?
Open the PDF in any viewer and scroll with the thumbnail strip or page overview switched on; blank and near-blank pages stand out as white rectangles. Note their numbers as the viewer displays them, since that is the numbering this tool uses.
Does the file get smaller when pages are removed?
Usually, by roughly the share those pages held. Dropping three scanned pages from a ten-page scan of 1.5MB takes off around 450KB. Pages of plain text weigh little, so removing them changes the size less than you might expect.
When should I use split-pdf instead?
When the pages you want are fewer than the pages you would have to list here. Removing twelve pages from a fifteen-page file means a long list; extracting the three you want in the split-pdf tool’s Pages mode is one short entry. Both copy pages without re-rendering them.
