Compress Image to 20KB

Drop a file and get a JPG of 20KB or less. Nothing else to set.

Files never leave your device. Everything is processed in your browser.

A 20KB limit is tight. It usually shows up on fields for scanned signatures, thumb impressions and small ID photos, where the portal stores thousands of files and wants each one tiny.

This page is already set to 20KB. Add your image and the download is ready a moment later.

Before and after

After
The same photo compressed to 19.7 KB

876 × 585 px19.7 KBJPG

This photo was 1.51 MB. With the limit set to 20 KB, it came out at 19.7 KB, which is 99% smaller.

To fit, the tool also scaled the picture down from 4032 × 2691 px to 876 × 585 px.

The image on the right is the actual file the tool above produced.

How to use it

  1. Add your signature scan or photo using the box above.
  2. Wait a second while the tool finds the best quality that fits in 20KB.
  3. Check the preview, then download the JPG.

What fits in 20KB

For a signature on white paper, 20KB is generous: the result stays sharp at several hundred pixels wide. For a colour photo of a face it is enough for roughly 300 to 450 pixels on the long side at reasonable quality. Expect a full-resolution phone photo to be scaled down considerably; there is no way to keep 12 million pixels in 20,000 bytes.

Getting a cleaner result

Crop before you compress. Every pixel of empty background spends bytes that could go to the part that matters. For signatures, photograph the paper in even light so the background is a flat white; shadows and paper texture are expensive to encode. If the form states a pixel size as well, resize to that size first and compress afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

The form says "between 10KB and 20KB". Will this work?
Usually yes, since the result is pushed as close to 20KB as the picture allows. To hold it above the lower limit, tick "My form also has a minimum size" under the size box on this page, enter 10, and compress again.
Why does my photo look small after compressing to 20KB?
To stay under 20KB without heavy blockiness, large photos are reduced in pixel size. That is normal for this limit and matches what forms with a 20KB cap expect.
Is 20KB the same as 20,000 bytes?
This tool counts 1KB as 1,024 bytes, so the ceiling is 20,480 bytes, the way Windows and most upload forms measure it. The exact byte size is shown with the result.
