Most people searching for a PSC photo resize are filling in a Kerala PSC one-time registration. Its notification asks for a picture 150 pixels wide and 200 pixels high, no larger than 30 KB, with the candidate’s name and the date it was taken printed along the bottom. Anything bigger, or a file saved as PNG, is turned back at the upload step.
This page is set to exactly 150 × 200 px with “Crop to fill”, so the portrait is scaled down and any surplus is trimmed equally from opposite edges. What it cannot do is write text: the name and date have to be on the picture before it arrives here.
Before and after

150 × 200 px11.4 KBJPG
The dashed frame on the left marks the part that fits the new shape. It was scaled to exactly 150 × 200 px, and the left and right edges outside the frame were trimmed.
The file went from 491 KB to 11.4 KB.
The image on the right is the actual file the tool above produced.
How to use it
- Get the name and date onto the photo first. A studio print usually has them on a white strip; for a phone selfie, add them with your gallery’s markup or text feature in large, dark letters.
- Open that captioned photo here. The width and height boxes already read 150 and 200 pixels, so there is nothing to type.
- Press Resize and zoom into the preview: the caption must still be legible at this small size, and none of it should have been trimmed off.
- Look at the KB figure on the result card. Under 30 is ready for the profile; if it is over, or the file came out as PNG, use the follow-up tools listed below.
Keeping the name strip readable at 150 pixels
A 150-pixel-wide picture is roughly the width of a thumbnail on a phone screen. Text that looks fine on the full photo shrinks with everything else, so a name written in small handwriting-style letters turns into grey smudges. Use bold capitals that fill most of the width of the strip, and keep the strip to about a fifth of the height so the face still dominates.
The shape helps: 150 × 200 is a 3:4 rectangle, the same as most phone cameras in portrait mode, so a straight phone shot loses nothing. A scanned print that is taller than 3:4 has its top and bottom shaved evenly, which can clip the caption. In that case crop it yourself at 3:4 first, keeping the strip inside the frame, then resize here.
Photo rules from public service commissions
Kerala Public Service Commission, one-time registration: 150 pixels width x 200 pixels height, maximum 30 KB, JPG; name of the candidate and date of taking the photograph printed at the bottom portion; taken after 31-12-2015, light background, face and shoulders clear.
Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, one-time registration: 5 cm width x 6 cm height, scanned at 200 DPI, up to 50 KB, JPG/JPEG. Switch the unit to cm, enter 5 and 6 with 200 DPI, and the result is 394 × 472 pixels. Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission: 4.5 cm height x 3.5 cm width (170 pixels x 130 pixels), 20 KB to 50 KB, with the name and date of photography at the bottom; a file that small often weighs less than 20 KB, so raise it with the increase tool. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana commissions ask for 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm according to their notifications; check the current one before applying.
Frequently asked questions
- Can this tool add my name and date to the photo?
- No. It only changes the pixel size. Add the caption with your phone’s photo editor or ask the studio to print it, then bring the captioned picture here so the text is scaled together with the face.
- Will the 150 × 200 file be under 30 KB?
- Almost always, because 30,000 pixels leave little to store, and the size appears on the result card. If a very detailed photo still goes over, run it through the 30 KB JPEG compressor; it keeps the pixel size when it can.
- My result is a PNG. Will the profile accept it?
- The Kerala notification asks for JPG, and a PNG input keeps its format when resized. Convert the PNG to JPG first, then resize; iPhone HEIC photos are saved as JPG automatically.
- Why is my forehead or chin cut off?
- The source was taller or wider than 3:4, so the edges were trimmed to reach 150 × 200. Pick a photo with more room around the head, or crop it at 3:4 yourself so you decide what stays.
- Can I use this page for another state’s PSC?
- Yes. Replace 150 and 200 with the size in that commission’s notice, switching the unit to cm and entering the DPI when the size is given in centimetres. Then check the KB limit on the result card.
